Texas based company GoTrax seeks to make electric bikes fun to those of all ages. With innovative products and unique designs, everything GoTrax does brings the adventure. Retailing at just $799, the GoTrax Shift S1 Electric Bike is one of the most wallet friendly full-size folding electric bicycles available. While there are low-priced folding e-bikes on the market, they tend to have paltry top speeds and a smaller wheel base.The GoTrax doesn’t skimp on either. With large 16” wheels and a max speed of 20 MPH, the Shift brings the specifications of higher priced e-bikes with affordable prices that are hard to beat.
Unlike cheaper electric bikes, the GoTrax Shift S1 has a large 350W continuous geared front hub motor and a generously sized 36V 5.2 Ah lithium ion battery. The battery can fetch a range of 15 miles with pedal assist engaged or 10 miles if you’re relying on the throttle alone. The frame is made from sleek water resistant aluminum and weighs just 37 pounds (with battery/motor included).
For safety, the GoTrax Shift includes front and rear mechanical V-brakes for easy stopping and 16” tires that grip even the toughest terrain. Unfortunately, the one downside of the bike is that it does not offer suspension, so you will feel larger bumps in the trail. However, the tires are sufficient enough that they seem to smooth out any imperfections and keep the ride feeling smooth.
As a bonus, the GoTrax also includes thumb throttle, pedal assist riding modes, cruise control, brightly lit LED display, three unique PAS levels, and a USB charging output that sits on a removable battery. This is an innovative little bike that works well, is comfortable to ride, and travels at a rather quick pace. It is also light enough to carry up a flight of stairs with ease.
Overall the GoTrax Shift S1 Electric Bike is peppy enough to give you a dose of adventure without breaking the bank. While it may not have the specs of pricier bikes, it can definitely outpace any cheaper electric bike.
