Wisconsin based brand Trek knows electric mountain bikes all too well. In fact, they’ve been making mountain bikes for years. Now as they pivot to more electric based models, their experience and innovation becomes all the more evident. Every Trek bike is designed right in Wisconsin and made in China, with the Trek guarantee behind every product. Trek offers electric bikes of all kinds, including cruisers, fat tire bikes, and mountain bikes. Today we’ll be focusing on the Trek Rail 5.

Priced at $4,999.99 and available in four distinct frame sizes (S, M, L, and XL), the Trek Rail 5 is a full-suspension electric mountain bike that can get you up steep inclines  in a flash. The Alpha Platinum Aluminum frame is housed in a deep olive/matte black color for a bit of added style. With Trek’s Removal Integrated Battery System, the bike looks sleek, but is also very user friendly.

The 625 Wh Bosch Power Tube Battery is fully hidden within the frame to protect it from external damage. It is easy to remove to charge or store and garners a long range of up to 80 miles on ECO mode. With an added Purion Controller,, the bike also offers up Walk Assist and a variable intelligent eMTB mode that can change based on your terrain. Alex MD35 wheels (in variable sizes to suit frame choice) and Schwalbe are totally tubeless ready. This allows any rider to run on a lower pressure, which reduces the odds of a tire puncture out on the trail.

To power your adventure, Trek included a power-packed 250 Watt Bosch Performance  CX magnesium motor body capable of producing 75 Nm of torque. One can easily reach speeds of up to 20 MPH, especially with turbo mode engaged. The Rail 5 also features Rockshox 35 Gold RL forks for 160mm of travel and integrated Rockshox suspension with 150mm of travel.

The suspension is highly supple and tuneable, which will have you ripping down trails faster than ever. Hydraulic disc brakes make it easy for you to brake later and carry speed further. You’ll have full stopping power whenever you desire. A TranzX seatpost makes it easy to get your weight back over the bike for technical descents or steep drop offs. This is a bike made for whatever adventure you have in mind.

If your budget allows, the Rail 5 is a powerful and responsive bike that tears up trails with ease. Though it may have similar specs to the Diamondback Release 3, the components in the Trek Rail 5 and innovations put it a few notches above the competition.
