Born in Seattle, Rad bikes have been dedicated to making the most affordable and innovative bikes in the US. Designed in Washington and manufactured in China, every Rad bike has to meet impossibly high standards before hitting the streets. Rad makes a full range of electric bikes, but today we’re going to focus on the popular Rad City Step-Thru 3.

Priced at an accessible $1499, the Rad City Step-Thru 3 is accessible yet packed with features. This is an approachable step-thru bike with a focus on comfort and regenerative braking. Unlike bikes from Schwinn or other big names, the Step-Thru boasts a built-in USB charging port, a modular battery pack, and integrated lights. The bright 80 lumen center beam headlight is bright, while the rear light comes equipped with flashing and bright mode when brakes are engaged.

A 750-Watt ‘Rear-Mounted Gearless Direct Drive Hub provides 41 newton meters of torque for all the power you could need while out on a ride. A 48V Samsung 18650 35E 3500mAH 13S4P Configuration provides a maximum range of 50 miles. On average, you’ll garner about 30. The bike itself has a top speed of 20 MPH, which is more than generous for a step-thru bike of this capacity.

This is a sturdy and adjustable bike made of 6061 aluminum alloy. It has an adjustable angle stem and lengthy 350mm seat post to fit a wide range of cyclists. Unlike similar step-thru bikes, such as the Treme Malibu, the Rad City has a low standover height and a minimum saddle height. The saddle is capable of dropping down quite far, and an alloy chain guard protects your pants or dress ends while pedaling.

Thanks to high-resolution tempo sensors, the bike adapts quickly to pedal flow. SR Sun Tour Light-Spring Suspension with Lockout keeps movement feeling polished, never troublesome or startling.

In terms of gearing, the Rad City 3 includes 7 Speed 1×7 Shimano Derailleur and a DNP Plated 11-34 Tooth Freewheel. This is a quiet bike that is tenacious and easy to ride. It is also quite secure thanks to Tektro Aries Mechanical Disc brakes in front and rear. Quick stopping is feasible on all types of terrain.

At the end of the day, the RadCity Step-Thru 3 Electric Bike is a feature packed electric wonder that rarely disappoints in terms of power or battery life. Riders of all backgrounds can enjoy a smooth safe ride without having to break the bank.
