PROS:
  • When you compare the Ride1Up Prodigy with other electric bikes in this price range, they tend to have cheaper motors from China, such as Bafang. However, Ride1Up has fitted the Prodigy with a high-end Brose mid-drive motor from Germany. So you can be assured that your Prodigy will be reliable and high performing.
  • All the electronics, including the battery, are fully integrated into the bike's frame. This creates a clean look and protects cabling and electrical components from the weather and damage.
  • The Ride1Up Prodigy has impressive specifications for its price. Aside from its superb motor, it has powerful dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes, a 9-speed Shimano Alivio transmission, and included rear rack and fender set.
CONS:
  • The only thing this electric bike is lacking is that it doesn't have a throttle mode for pedal-free riding.

The Ride1UpProdigy is an excellent electric bike for fast commuting and off-road riding. You will be impressed by the ride quality and build quality while enjoying every ride.

Ride1Up prides itself on creating efficient electric bikes. Efficiency lies within every aspect of the company, from the supply chain to the final products. Ride1Up is a purely online company, but the bikes are designed in California and China, allowing them to provide high-quality ebikes at affordable prices.

The Ride1Up Prodigy is the company’s first mid-drive ebike. It sits in the sub $2,500 price bracket, but has a premium feel, thanks to its high-end components and build quality.

Ride1Up has fitted the Prodigy with a punchy 90nm motor, making hill climbing a piece of cake. It is powered by a 36V14ah Phylion BN21 battery with cells from Samsung, giving you peace of mind that you have a quality battery that will last a long time. It also gives you a range between 30 and 50 miles on a single charge.

The Prodigy is a class 3 electric bike, which means you have a top speed of 28mph. Thanks to the Brose frame integrated controller, you get 9 levels of power assistance.

You can buy the Ride1Up Prodigy in three versions, a commuter, a hardtail electric mountain bike, and a commuter with a step-through frame. The mountain bike version comes with an XC air-sprung suspension fork with 120mm travel and hydraulic lockout to make climbing more efficient.

You also get Maxxis Forekaster 27.5 “x2.4” tires on the mountain bike version, improving grip while still having a low rolling resistance.

The commuter version has a rigid aluminum fork, Maxxis Refuse tires, and ergonomic handlebars more suited to city riding. It also has a more urban-friendly drivetrain in the form of a Shimano 46T 9-speed. In contrast, the mountain bike version has a 42T, also from Shimano.

Ride1Up has built the Prodigy’s frame from a lightweight aluminum alloy. This makes the bike weigh in at 48 lbs, but it also provides robustness, stiffness, and excellent vibration damping, making the Prodigy responsive and comfortable to ride.

You can buy this bike in three attractive colors, silver, green, or dark grey. All look great and compliment the bike’s frame design well.

Ride1Up only ships within North America, but shipping is free within The Continental United States. There are extra costs for shipping to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.

When comparing the Prodigy to Ride1Up’s Roadster V2, you get a much more versatile and faster bike. If you are new to electric bikes, the Roadster V2 would be a better choice, as it is a class 1 bike, therefore, not as fast and more manageable.

The Ride1UpProdigy is an excellent electric bike for fast commuting and off-road riding. You will be impressed by the ride quality and build quality while enjoying every ride.
